from free Dominguez to anyone without A.D.D.: *** This medium of expression has opened a portal to limitless galaxies right in my tiny skull. Or maybe it is my tiny heart. Chicken and egg. Pork and beans. I had finally found a use for my somewhat dyslexic, spaghetti highway of a thought process, dreams that speak to me, wonderings (e.g., "where do butterflies return to die?"), and impressions of energy and virtual particles that sometimes seem more real than skin. Bruce and I have gone through a lot in the past 3 years and 11 months: 2 record deals, 3 managers, many legal situations, 2 bands, many debts and other challenges. Oh yeah, and in the midst of everything, we managed to write 2 albums, with an excess of song zygotes in culture dishes (computer hard drives!) waiting to be born. Now we have the foundation. The balance. We have committed to growing upward and outward, our branches reaching infinitely through our expression. The fruits of our labor manifest first from being the most content in employing our inspiration. We put it to work, baby. We push ourselves; we push each other. We tell each other when it sucks and when we think it rules. The love and respect for the auric syrup that pours when we write has brought us to this point. ZerØspace.
The first album, Trickster, told a story about looking at the shadows of unspoken internal wars and shedding identities and illusions that veiled pure Self. Trickster ends with realizations -- memories, dreams and reflections, if you will. Exit Trickster. Enter KT's second record, ZerØspace. ZerØspace is balance. The album begins with the insight that now the inner stuff has been tossed around, faced, and set in the White Room, a balance between this internal platform and the external world needs to happen. It begins by seeing with new eyes. Everything looks different. Nature is speaking. You're driving a vehicle, and what is most important before the ride ends? The first third of the story in ZerØspace explores understanding and acknowledging the equal opposite of a 'thing or action' (the "hallu-c-in-ation"). The next third is about relating, integrating the outer world, and how no experience or situation is a "bad" or a "good" one. They are just experiences, and the observer's attitude can change everything. The last third of the record is about keeping the delicate balance, taking 'serene dream' into a mantra that turns thoughts battling thoughts into one calm sea. The balance. The last 2 tracks are symbolic to moving on to the next awakening, pushing the limits of knowledge aside for more growth. We wanted ZerØspace to musically represent the search for balance with twists and turns, highs and lows and different influences that we love. We sought to translate opposites and extremes with every fiber of our ability -- for the balance. There is a thread of humor throughout the record, although it seems to be for my own personal amusement. That's okay, it's my piece of pie in the corner. Location, location, location. . . .
The band coming together has been a grand ole extension of familial essence. The "build it and they will come" theory comes to mind. Everyone has a brilliant attitude and a common resonance of humor. Christian (a.k.a. "Fidget"): he's the Old' Dirty Bastard of the band, I think. We may be taking out a separate insurance policy on him. Sean is quite the Taurus - an herbivore, dedicated, a big heart, tactless, stubborn and always helpful. Moni is The Spaceman. I say these things with the utmost respect -- I believe an ancient philosopher once said, "It takes one to know one." We've been known to laugh during rehearsals and destroy a song, but sometimes we just can't stop giggling like kids. Laughter rules, and everyone is extremely talented and devoted to the sonic drama. KT are finally going to tour properly! The full album comes out in February at stores near you - and at a dot-com near your fingertips.
We strive to provoke and to be rockafiably tasty. So hopefully at the root of all this, something is felt. And in the most sincere words Bruce and I have said to each other yet: "Um, like - whatever." Forget everything you just read. These words can now be thrown away. Just be. . . . peace & love fd
